Lady Govs track enjoys solid performances in opening indoor meet

APSUs track team had a few solid performances in its opening indoor meet Sunday in the Ed S. Temple Classic in the Gentry Center.

With more than 600 athletes competing, APSUs best performances came from Sherlonda Johnson, an NCAA outdoor qualifier in the long jump last spring, and Cicely Sullivan, who tied for third place in the long at 5.79 meters.

In the 400-meter dash, LeAnn White was sixth at 57.00, while Shemeka Strong was eighth at 57.50 with Connie Every 36th at 1:02.00. Takeshia Richardson was 32nd in 200-meter dash at 26.50 seconds.

In the 55-meter hurdle, Tia Hendricks and Danja Yates finished in an eighth-place tie at 8.50 seconds, while in the 55-meter dash Johnsion took 13th place at 7.40 seconds followed by Sullivan, who was 18th at 7.50.

The 4-by-400 meter relay team of Sullivan, Johnson, White and Strong finished in eighth place.
