Lady Govs soccer remains winless in OVC

Austin Peays womens soccer team dropped its third consecutive Ohio Valley Conference match, losing to Tennessee Tech, 2-1, Oct. 1. The loss drops the Lady Govs to .500 on the season, as well as 0-3 in conference play.

The Lady Govs (5-5-1) took the field with back-up keeper, freshman Brooke Abrahams, in the net. Regular starting keeper Sarah Broadbent, a junior, was sidelined with a broken finger. Abrahams posted five saves in the match.

Austin Peay struck first when senior Erin Mitchell scored on a penalty kick off Tennessee Tech foul in the box. The Lady Govs held a 1-0 lead at halftime, but failed to maintain their defensive intensity in the second half.

Austin Peay trailed TTU in shots, 18-9.

“Brooke [Abrahams] did well in the goal, we just dropped the ball defensively,” said Head Coach Kelley Poole Guth. “Good teams will continue to take advantage of us until we can play 90 minutes of soccer.”

The Lady Govs return to action with a 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5, match at IUPUI.
