APSU women's track and field team, led by its trio of jumpers, finished fifth at the DePauw Indoor Invitational Feb. 12. The Lady Govs scored 63 points to finish fifth out of 20 teams competing, and the team was the top Division I program at the meet.

The Lady Govs' trio of jumpers—junior Sherlonda Johnson, freshman Leeann White and senior Cicely Sullivan—all scored in both the long jump and triple jump. Johnson, fresh off an impressive week at the Southern Illinois McDonald's Invitational, finished first in the long jump with a meet-record 18-05.00 jump and first in the triple jump with a leap of 37-05.00. White added a second place finish in the long jump (18-04.25) and a seventh place in the triple jump (34-10.50). Sullivan chipped in with a sixth in the long jump (17-08.25) and seventh in the triple jump (34-10.50).

Johnson's escapades didn't end in the field events as she finished second in the 55-meter dash with a 7.17 in the finals. In addition, she finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.95 seconds. All told, Johnson accounted for 32 of APSU's 63 points.

“Sherlonda did another great job for us this weekend,” says Lady Govs Head Coach Doug Molnar. “Frankly, there is nothing she does that surprises me anymore. As for the team, we keep improving each week and that's all any coach can ask for.”

Austin Peay now prepares for its season's toughest test, the Feb. 19 Tennessee Indoor Invitational.
