Lady Gov Brianna Venable breaks home run record

Although league-leading Eastern Kentucky rebounded to win the nightcap in an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader, it was a personal win for Lady Gov Brianna Venable, who hit an APSU record-setting 11th home run.

In the nightcap, EKU scored two in the first and two more in the fourth–and built as much as a 10-1 lead in the sixth. With the Lady Govs facing the eight-run rule, Venable blasted a three-run shot to dead centerfield. That homer broke Andrea Millers 1995 mark of 10.

It was an outstanding day by Venable, who was three-for-six at the plate with a single, triple and home run and three RBIs. Her first-game walk tied the record for single-season walks with 22.

In addition, sophomore left fielder Jennifer Simpkins extended her hitting streak to 10-games, her career best and the Lady Govs season's longest.
