Johnson jumps into NCAA Regionals

Sherlonda Johnson was Austin Peays track teams only champion at the Ohio Valley Conference championships last weekend. In fact, her performance in the long jump qualified her for the NCAA Regionals, May 28-29, in Baton Rouge, La.

Johnson leaped a career-best 19' 4.75" to win the triple jump in leading the Lady Govs to a seventh-place finish. Southeast Missouri dominated the meet with 205 points to repeat as champions.

Johnson leaped a career-best 19' 4.75" to win the triple jump in leading the Lady Govs to a seventh-place finish. Southeast Missouri dominated the meet with 205 points to repeat as champions.

Johnson accounted directly for 19 of the Lady Govs 39 points. She finished third in the long jump (38'6.75") and sixth in the 100-meters (12.18) She also was part of the 4 x 100-meter relay team than finished fifth to earn four points.

Felicia James finished second in the 800-meters with a time of 2:10.05.

Tia Hendricks took fourth in the javelin with a toss of 35.56 meters (116' 8”).
