Johnson captures long jump as Lady Govs finish sixth

A day after finishing second in the triple jump, Sherlonda Johnson captured her specialty, the long jump, Saturday, Feb. 5, at the McDonalds Invitational. She helped lead APSU to a tie for seventh-place in the meet, held at Southern Illinois University.

Johnson, who competed in the long jump at last springs NCAA Outdoor Regionals, jumped 19 11/2 " to dominate the event. Teammate Leann White took third in the event at 18 1 1/4" to help APSU rack up 16 points. On Friday, the duo plus Cicely Sullivan tallied 13 points in the triple jump.

Johnson also took seventh place in the 55-meter dash, resulting in 22 total points of the Lady Govs' 36-point total.

Denise Honea scored two points for the Lady Govs for her eighth-place finish in the 3000-meter run with a time of 21:01.75.
