Jazz concert slated for next week

The Austin Peay State University Department of Music and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts will sponsor a jazz concert.

The Jazz Collegians Concert will start at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of Dr. Richard Steffen, professor of music, The Jazz Collegians will perform. They are a modern version of the 1940s big band with updated arrangements from today's top writers from around the country.

The concert will have pieces from Gordwin Goodwin's Big Phat Band, songs from the fusion group Weather Report, a piece honoring the late Maynard Ferguson, an updated arrangement of an old standard by Los Angeles writer Don Schamber and a new composition in the style of a Latin ballad by Los Angeles writer Bob Curnow.
