Hardin, Henning selected Most Valuable Athletes; Wierzba, Adcock take Joy Awards

A quartet of Austin Peay athletes was recognized Monday, April 26, with APSUs most esteemed athletic honors.

Womens basketball star Gerlonda Hardin, the Lady Govs all-time leading rebounder and second all-time leading scorer who led Austin Peay to a second straight Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title and fourth straight OVC tourney championship, was named Most Outstanding Female Athlete.
A quartet of Austin Peay athletes was recognized Monday, April 26, with APSU's most esteemed athletic honors.

Women's basketball star Gerlonda Hardin, the Lady Govs all-time leading rebounder and second all-time leading scorer who led Austin Peay to a second straight Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title and fourth straight OVC tourney championship, was named Most Outstanding Female Athlete.

Men's basketball player Adrian Henning, who became only the 10th member of the Governors' 1,000-point, 500-rebound club while helping lead the Governors to a perfect 16-0 OVC regular-season title, was named Most Outstanding Male Athlete.

Meanwhile, teammate Rhet Wierzba, a three-year Govs basketball starter who earned the OVC Scholar-Athlete Award and was president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, was named the Joy Award recipient as the most valuable senior athlete. Wierzba, who owns a 3.905 GPA as a business major, also was named recipient of the Male Scholar-Athlete Award.

And Jennifer Adcock, a four-year softball player who has never made anything but As in the classroom, was named the female Joy Award recipient.

In addition, Adcock, a mass communication major, and rifle's Jana Sullivan, an agriculture major, were named co-recipients of the Female Scholar-Athlete Award with identical 4.0 GPAs. They also were awarded the Governors Club Academic Achievement Award for possessing the highest grade-point average of graduating seniors.

And pom squad member Dana Price, who has a 3.92 GPA as a business administration major, was named the 2004-05 Governors Club Academic Achievement scholarship recipient as the rising senior APSU athlete with the highest GPA.

Those awards highlighted Austin Peay's annual athletics banquet in Dave Aaron Arena.
