Graduating class of Spring 2003 the largest yet

Six-hundred and seventy-nine students will receive degrees at the upcoming May 9 graduation; 598 will participate in the commencement ceremony, according to the Graduation Commencement Committee.

"This is the largest number of students yet to be awarded degrees," says Dr. Margaret Deitrich, head of the committee, "and possibly the largest to participate in a single commencement."

Six-hundred and seventy-nine students will receive degrees at the upcoming May 9 graduation; 598 will participate in the commencement ceremony, according to the Graduation Commencement Committee.

"This is the largest number of students yet to be awarded degrees," says Dr. Margaret Deitrich, head of the committee, "and possibly the largest to participate in a single commencement."

As in past ceremonies, winners of various student awards will be announced. The awards are the Halbert Harvill Civitan Citizenship Award, the William McClure Drane Award and the Mister and Madam Governor 2003 Award.

The ceremony begins at 2 p.m.

The speaker for this semester's ceremony is alumnus Ron Carter, a founding member of the Transportation Security Agency who currently is in charge of national logistics for the TSA's field offices.
