Golf Govs slip to fourth on final day of OVC tourney

Austin Peays mens golf team shot its worst round of the tournament to finish in fourth place April 27 at the Ohio Valley Conference championships at the Country Club of Paducah (Ky.).

The final-day 317 coupled with Tuesdays 311 (926 total) helped prevent the Govs from making it four straight OVC tourney titles. League newcomer Jacksonville State fended off Murray State to win the title, 906-910. Eastern Kentucky also pushed ahead of the Govs at 918, shooting a day-low 301.

Senior Matt Gallant, who earlier was named All-OVC, was APSU's top finisher in seventh (71-79-78=228). Fellow senior Chris Harder closed with final final-round 76 to finish at 235. Freshman Chris Barron, APSU's leader after two rounds with a 148, shot a final-round 87 to also end at 235.

Sophomore Matt Dugger also struggled on the final day with an 85 to end at 239 while Yoshio Yamamoto bounced back from Tuesday's 85 to shoot 78 for a 240 total.
