Austin Peay State University's Second Annual Faculty Research Forum concludes with a presentation, titled “Bear, Bo and Bowden: Legends and Lessons in Sports Leadership.”

The talk will be presented by Dr. Roy Baker, assistant professor of management, and Dr. William Rayburn, associate professor of management information systems, from 3-4:30 p.m., Thursday, April 6 in APSU's University Center, Room 303.

Baker says, “Leadership comes from many sources. Whether in a classroom trying to encourage students to learn, managing employees to produce a top-notch, error-free product or coaching a group of highly paid and talent-laden athletes to perform as a team, a common thread runs through each situation. That common thread is encouraging individuals to maintain higher than normal levels of performance in the pursuit of common goals.”

Baker and Rayburn will use sports and coaching legends to illustrate the various styles and methods of leadership.

“‘Bear' Bryant, ‘General Bo-Patton Schembechler' and Bobby ‘Riverboat Gambler' Bowden are coaching legends who used and perfected unique and effective leadership styles that made them well-known and successful coaches,” says Baker.

Sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Faculty Research Forum is designed to provide an opportunity for faculty to present research findings to their peers, students and other interested parties.

The presentation is free and open to the public.
