Edington family endows fine arts scholarship at APSU

Local dentist Dr. Mac Edington has endowed a scholarship at Austin Peay State University, continuing his familys legacy of supporting fine arts in the Clarksville community.

This seemed a very natural thing to do because (the family) enjoys the fine arts, he said.

The Edington Family Endowment Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student pursing a degree in the fine arts at APSU. Its a generous donation from a family not native to Clarksville and with no member actually an alumnus of the school.

The Edington Family Endowment Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student pursing a degree in the fine arts at APSU. It's a generous donation from a family not native to Clarksville and with no member actually an alumnus of the school.

“Austin Peay has a fine reputation, and it's a very important part of this community,” Edington said. “Just look at the cultural activity this town enjoys because we have it.”

Recipients of the scholarship will be in much the same position as the Edingtons found themselves in several years ago. The family, originally from Knoxville, relocated to Clarksville following the doctor's 30-year career as an Army dentist.

Only students coming to APSU from out of town, but who are Tennessee natives, are eligible for the scholarship.

“The reason we did that is we wanted to have a relationship with the recipient of the scholarship, not just meet them once and that's it. It's beneficial for all of us to have this type of relationship.”
