Dimensions New Music Series kick-off concert features variety

The Dimensions New Music Series at Austin Peay begins the 2004-05 season with its annual American Music Week concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 1 in the concert theatre, music/mass communication building.

The concert will include solos and ensemble works by five living American composers: Katherine Hoover, Valerie Oyen-Larsen, James Grant, Michael Fink and Daniel McCarthy.

The concert will include solos and ensemble works by five living American composers: Katherine Hoover, Valerie Oyen-Larsen, James Grant, Michael Fink and Daniel McCarthy.

Joining guest artists Tami Sturges, violin, and Eric Willie, marimba, are Austin Peay music faculty Francis Massinon, horn; Anne Glass, piano; Valerie Oyen-Larsen, mezzo-soprano; Bernard Flythe, tuba; Allen Henderson, baritone; Stanley Yates, guitar; and Andrea Brown, horn.

Established in 1980, the Dimensions New Music Series focuses on the presentation of contemporary music of all nationalities with an emphasis on American music written since 1950. More than 40 composers have come to APSU since 1980 for premiers of their works and to speak to students about various topics in their field.

The Nov. 1 concert, which is free and open to the public, will showcase music of many moods and unusual combinations of instruments and vocal sounds.
