MTSU opens horse arena and science center

Middle Tennessee State University celebrated the grand opening of the Tennessee Miller Coliseum Tuesday, March 18, with 10 national and world champion horses.

Some $20 million of the $21 million construction cost came from the estate of John C. "Tennessee" Miller and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Miller.

The 222,000-square-foot coliseum seats up to 4,600 people and features 492 horse stalls. It will house the offices of the Tennessee Walking Horse Owners' Association, which the Millers helped found.
