Dr. Kenneth Smith's collection of more than 15,000 country and bluegrass albums has been donated to the Archives of Appalachia at East Tennessee State University. (Associated Press, 8/31/04)

Former UT President John W. Shumaker has filed a breach-of-contract claim for the more than $400,000 severance package UT trustees rescinded after learning he might have broken state laws. The possibility was ruled out for lack of evidence. (The Tennessean, 8/27/04)
