UT trustees have decided that the University of Knoxville's next president will be offered a compensation package totaling $400,000 to $500,000. Nothing extra beyond a UT car and the official president's residence will be included. All compensation will come from the university, none from the UT Foundation. Former President John Shumaker's pay package was worth more than $700,000, with about half coming from the foundation. According to The Chronicle of Higher Education, Shumaker's annual compensation was the second-highest among public universities. (The Tennessean, 12/13/03)
