Community School of the Arts offers fall classes for all ages

From private music lessons to after-school art, Austin Peays Community School of the Arts offers a variety of classes throughout Fall 2003.

Private music lessons enhance musical development by focusing on proper technique for individual instruments. These lessons are ideal for beginners as well as more advanced musicians. The tuition covers weekly half-hour sessions. Private lessons include:

Private music lessons enhance musical development by focusing on proper technique for individual instruments. These lessons are ideal for beginners as well as more advanced musicians. The tuition covers weekly half-hour sessions. Private lessons include:

Suzuki violin and piano: Private music lessons for children, age 3 1/2 and up, will be taught by Thornton Cline and Carrie Jackson Aug. 25-Dec. 13 in the music/mass communication building. The course fee is $330 for violin (includes a weekly group lesson) and $280 for piano.

Violin: Private lessons for children, age six and up, will be taught weekly by Kirsten Mitchen, a member of the Nashville Symphony, each Monday during Aug. 25-Dec. 13 in the music/mass communication building. The course fee is $280.

Piano: Private lessons for children, age 6 years and up, will be offered Aug. 25-Dec. 13 in the music/mass communication building. The teachers are Sylvia Carver and Carolyn Bunger, and the course fee is $280.

Voice: Shanna Lee will be teaching private voice lessons for people, age13 and up, from Aug. 19-Dec 13 in the music/mass communication building. The course fee is $280.

Guitar: Private guitar lessons will be taught by Jared Martin for students, age 7 and up, during Aug. 25-Dec. 13 in the music/mass communication building. The course fee is $280.

Saxophone: Children, age 7 and up, have the opportunity to take lessons from Daniel Jackson during Aug. 25-Dec. 13 in the music/mass communication building. Course fee is $280.

Trumpet: Amy Watkins will be teaching private lessons for students, age 7 and up, during Aug. 25-Dec. 13 in the music/mass communication building. Course fee is $280.

Group music and art classes enable your child to explore the worlds of music and art in the company of peers. Group lessons not only teach technical skills, they enhance social skills and stimulate the young musicians' desire to succeed.

Clarksville Children's Choir, under the direction of Lyndia Fuller, is for children in grades 4-8. The class will meet 6-7:30 p.m., Mondays, Sept. 8-Dec. 8 in room 147 of the music/mass communication building. The course fee is $90. Auditions will be held Aug. 25. Call ahead to schedule an audition.

The Clarksville Community Chorus, which is for adults, age 18 and up, will be taught by Valerie Oyen-Larsen from 7-9 p.m., Thursdays, Sept. 11-Dec. 11 in room 147, music/mass communication building. The course fee is $100. Auditions for placement will be held Sept. 11. High school students must provide a reference. Call ahead to schedule an audition.

High School Flute Choir is an opportunity for flute students to develop musicianship and performance skills in a full-ensemble setting. Students will conclude the course by performing with the APSU Flute Choice. Taught by Joann McIntosh, this class is for high school students with two years of experience. It will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Aug. 26-Nov. 18 in room 235, music/mass communication building. The course fee is $60.

Kindermusik Village will engage all baby's senses with object and instrument exploration, vocal play, singing, creative movement and colorful literature. Taught by Sharon King, the class, designed for newborn-1 1/2 years, will be limited in number. It will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturdays, Aug. 16-Dec. 13 in room 229, music/mass communication building. The course fee is $125 with an additional fee for materials, to be decided later.

Kindermusik Our Time focuses on the child's healthy emotional development through playing instruments, learning finger plays, moving to music and singing along. Limited in size, the class is for children, 1 1/2 to 3 years old, and will be taught by Sharon King. The class meets at 10:30 a.m., Saturdays, Aug. 16-Dec. 13 in room 229, music/mass communication building. The course fee is $125 with a possible additional materials charge.

Visual art lessons heighten awareness of the world around us and help develop a sense of style and aesthetics within our culture.

Private Art Lessons for children, 6 years old and up, will be taught by Kimberly Radford and Brad Reagan during Aug. 25-Dec. 15. The course fee is $280.

Alternative Photography Processes, which explores the latest techniques of photographic developing, is geared toward the advanced photographer. Class size is limited. Beverly Parker is the instructor of the course, which is for people who are at least 15 years old. The class will meet from 6-8 p.m., Mondays, Sept. 8-Oct. 27 in room 106, Trahern Building. The course fee is $125, with $20 payable to the instructor on the first night of class.

Digital Photography workshop, a one-day class for people, age 15 and up, gives students the opportunity to learn the basics of digital photography in a natural outdoor setting. The course will cover data storage, picture composition and photographic techniques in beautiful Land Between The Lakes. Taught by Ruth Fitch, the workshop meets 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 18. The fee is $40.

Pictogram Workshop, a one-day class for those who are age 15 and up will be taught by Ruth Fitch. It is an opportunity to learn the basics of darkroom technique without investing in a camera or film. The class meets from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Oct. 25, in Trahern Building. The fee is $30.

After-School Art Studio offers children, age 7-11 years, the opportunity to explore avenues of image-making with Stephanie Travis through unique, creative projects designed to enhance a child's technical, conceptual and analytical abilities. The class will be 4:30-5:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Sept. 16-Dec. 2 in room 403, Trahern Building. Course fee is $125.

Children's Basket Weaving, a beginner-level course in basket-weaving fundamentals, is for children, age 7-11. Taught by Kathy Fullerton, the class will be held from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturdays, Sept. 20-Nov. 15 in Trahern. Course fee is $125 with $30 due on the first day of class.

Basket Weaving, a beginner-level course, will offer the student instruction in basket-weaving fundamentals. Taught by Kathy Fullerton, this course is designed for people who are 15 years old or older. It will be held 6-8 p.m., Tuesdays, Sept. 30-Nov. 15 in Trahern. Course fee is $125 with $40 payable on the first night of class.

Payment of fees guarantees your spot in class. The Community School of the Arts reserves the right to drop a student whose fees are not paid by Aug. 22. Payment options include cash, check, Visa or MasterCard.
