The Austin Peay State University Chamber Singers and University Choir will present the annual Spring Choral Concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 29 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.

More than 80 students from the two choral groups will perform selections that are “upbeat and energetic,” said Dr. Karen Kenaston-French, director of choral activities at APSU.

During the first half of the concert, the Chamber Singers will perform Eric Whitacre's “Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine,” a highly challenging and dramatic portrayal of Leonardo da Vinci's imagination of human flight.

The Chamber Singers also will feature selections it performed recently at the Tennessee Music Educators Conference, Nashville. The Chamber Singers was one of two choral groups invited to sing at the event.

In the second half of the concert, the University Choir will perform works by Handel, Mozart, Brahms, Ives and Copland.

“These works are some of what I consider to be the foundations of the choral repertoire,” Kenaston-French said.

Dr. Thomas King, professor of music, will be tenor soloist with the choir, performing an arrangement of “Danny Boy.”

Kenaston-French will be assisted by Elizabeth Wolynec, accompanist and adjunct instructor of music.

The public is invited to attend the Spring Choral Concert. Admission is free.
