Gardner has been with the University for seven years. She is the second women's coach to be named Coach of the Year. LaDonna McClain claimed the title in 1995-96.

Dave Loos was picked as the men's Coach of the Year for the third time in his 13 years as the Govs basketball coach. He won his first Coach of the Year award in 1990-91, his second in 1996-97.

Brooke Armistead was named the women's Player of the Year and was a first team all-conference selection. She was the 1999-00 OVC Freshman of the Year and has been an all-conference pick for the last four years. She also is second on the OVC's all-time scoring list and has broken records every year she's been with Austin Peay.

Three Govs players were named all-conference. Gov's forward Adrian Henning was a first team conference selection, center Josh Lewis was named to the second team (as well as being named tournament MVP), and guard Anthony Davis was named to the third team. Kera Bergeron and Ashley Haynes made the All-Freshman team. Gerlonda Hardin earned a spot on the all-conference first team.

Winners are selected by OVC conference coaches and sports information directors. The awards were presented at a press conference Thursday, March 7 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center.
