Kings work typically is presented frameless and without glass, to achieve more of an illusion.

I would like them to float like wafers on the wall – without weight, they can push you back or suck you in, he said in his artist statement. A Florida art professor who has been showing exhibitions for 28 years has his work on display at Austin Peay State University.

“I would like them to float like wafers on the wall — without weight, they can push you back or suck you in,” he said in his artist statement.
For more than two decades, King has been working on a series of semiautobiographical drawings, titled “Valley of the Witches.”

“This (the title) is the direct English translation of Cwmgwrach, the small Welsh village where I was born and spent most of my childhood,” he said in the statement. “The title gives the flavor of the main themes that interest me — the uneasy relationship between landscape and industry, cultural erosion, cultural synthesis and the evocation of a sense of place.”

Since 1992, King has been at FIU, having previously served as chair of the visual arts department. From 1969-87, he taught art and served in administrative capacities at various universities in England.

King earned a degree in fine art, with a concentration in painting, in 1966 from the Exeter College of Art in England and an art teacher's certificate in 1967 from Goldsmiths College of Art at the University of London.
