Army vet wins APSU scholarship

During Austin Peay State Universitys recent College and Career Event for Adults, a U.S. Army veteran won a $1,000 scholarship to attend APSU.

Stephanie Garcia, Clarksville, won the door prize, a $1,000 scholarship.

Garcia, who began exploring a return to college via the Veterans Upward Bound program at APSU, will start classes next fall on the main campus.
During Austin Peay State University's recent College and Career Event for Adults, a U.S. Army veteran won a $1,000 scholarship to attend APSU.

Garcia, who began exploring a return to college via the Veteran's Upward Bound program at APSU, will start classes next fall on the main campus.

According to Janet Velazquez, admissions counselor and coordinator of the College and Career Event for Adults, 34 prospective students attended. They came from Montgomery, Robertson, Stewart, Sumner, Madison and Crockett counties in Tennessee as well as Christian County, Ky.

The keynote speaker for the event was Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers, an Austin Peay alumna.
