APSU Upward Bound team state champion of Scholars Bowl Competition

Austin Peay State Universitys High School Upward Bound Scholars Bowl Team is the 2009 state champion of the Tennessee Association of Special Programs (TASP) Scholars Bowl Competition.

The competition was held on Saturday, March 14 at APSU. Teams were quizzed on math, science, English literature, Greek mythology and current events.

APSUs Scholars Bowl Team went undefeated throughout the event and competed against teams from Eastern Tennessee State University, Tusculum, Lane College, Douglas Cherokee College, Dyersburg Community College and Lincoln Memorial University. APSU's Scholars Bowl Team went undefeated throughout the event and competed against teams from Eastern Tennessee State University, Tusculum, Lane College, Douglas Cherokee College, Dyersburg Community College and Lincoln Memorial University.

The team was divided into an A team and B team. Both teams won in their respected events. Team A members included Bobby Bell (captain), Malcolm Martin (co-captain), Jocetta Dennis, Aaron Carmicheal, Adriana Tate and Joanna Williams. Team B members included Alexandre Simmons, Nicole Bell, Mariah Whitney, Autumn Amos-Heyward, Reginald Chapman and Martavia Wilson.

The team's next event is the regional competition held in Atlanta, Ga., in April.
