Austin Peay's department of music, APSU Bands, Sigma Alpha Iota and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia present the Mid-South Marching Invitational.

Bands will compete from 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11 in Governors Stadium.

Attracting high schools from west and middle Tennessee, APSU officials estimate 17 bands will compete. Professional judges will evaluate several aspects of the bands' performances, including music skills, marching formations and field commanders.

“The festival has been held annually at APSU for more than a dozen years,” says Dr. Ann Silverberg, music department chair. “It's a great opportunity to watch many of the region's finest high school marching bands compete with each other for awards.”

“The event will bring hundreds of student musicians to the campus along with their families, friends and band directors.”

According to Andrea Brown, assistant director of bands, the event “has the potential to be an incredible recruiting opportunity for the band, music department and the University.”

“During the course of the day, we might have 3,000-4,000 people in and around Governors Stadium,” she says. “This event brings…students and parents to our campus who might not otherwise think of visiting APSU. It is an excellent opportunity to make a great impression through our personal interactions with the students, parents and band directors.”

The cost of admission is $10 for the entire day or $7 to attend the preliminary or final competition. Children ages 12 and under will be admitted at no cost.
