APSU plans travel writing winter course in Australia

If you ever have wondered what the world is like down under in Australia, Austin Peay State University is organizing such an opportunity for students this winter.

A course, titled Of Koalas and Kangaroos: Travel Writing Down Under, will focus on the joys of travel writing as participants document their adventures. This course is one of several offered through the Cooperative Center for Study Abroads (CCSA) Australia Winter Program, scheduled for Dec. 26-Jan. 9.
If you ever have wondered what the world is like “down under” in Australia, Austin Peay State University is organizing such an opportunity for students this winter.

A course, titled Of Koalas and Kangaroos: Travel Writing Down Under, will focus on the joys of travel writing as participants document their adventures. This course is one of several offered through the Cooperative Center for Study Abroad's (CCSA) Australia Winter Program, scheduled for Dec. 26-Jan. 9.

While each course will have a unique itinerary, participants will be based in metropolitan Sydney and tropical Cairns. Dr. Mickey Wadia, professor of English at APSU, will be teaching the travel writing course.

Participants will be able to snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef, explore the lush Daintree rainforest, learn about Australia's wildlife at Taronga Zoo, hang out at Darling Harbour, see the Blue Mountains and visit Circular Quay, a top leisure and recreational center.

Students may earn up to three hours of college credit by combin-ing the study-abroad experience with directed study activities either before or after the travel portion of the course. APSU faculty and staff are encouraged to participate without having to earn credit.

Participants must be at least 18 years old, and space for the program is limited.

The deadline to apply for the Australia Winter Program is Oct. 1. To register for the program, contact Dr. Carlette Hardin, APSU campus coordinator for CCSA programs, by telephone at (931) 221-7697 or by e-mail at hardinc@apsu.edu.
