APSU plans activities as part of Disability Awareness Month throughout April

Walking to class, listening to a lecture, reading a sentence accurately or typing e-mail are daily actions most people can do without thinking twice.

But for those who have disabilities, such activities can be a challenge. Their world is different.

Thats what the Office of Disability Services at Austin Peay State University wants people to understand. April is Disability Awareness Month, and activities are designed so that the public can see how different life with a disability is.

That's what the Office of Disability Services at Austin Peay State University wants people to understand. April is Disability Awareness Month, and activities are designed so that the public can see how different life with a disability is.

The month begins with a kick-off from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday, March 31 in the Morgan University Center, Room 305. APSU President Tim Hall will unveil the theme for 2010. Refreshments will be served, and a calendar of the month's upcoming events will be distributed.

The STAR Center Access Express is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., April 21 in the MUC Plaza. The mobile unit provides computer access evaluation, workplace accommodations, employer orientations and assistive technology evaluations to those in need of the services but who are unable to access them.

Refreshments will be served, and free T-shirts will be available to students who complete a tour of the mobile unit and complete an evaluation form. Students must have a valid APSU I.D.
