APSU hosts 1st Family Weekend, Oct. 26-28

Austin Peay State University is hosting its first Family Weekend Oct. 26-28 for parents, children and spouses of APSU students.

APSU officials say the weekend not only will provide a better understanding of the University experience, it also is a way for family members to show support for their students while strengthening bonds between the student, parent and APSU.

A dessert reception from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26 in the Morgan University Center Iris Room starts the weekend with a Salsa Night from 8-11 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.
Austin Peay State University is hosting its first Family Weekend Oct. 26-28 for parents, children and spouses of APSU students.

APSU officials say the weekend not only will provide a better understanding of the University experience, it also is a way for family members to show support for their students while strengthening bonds between the student, parent and APSU.

A dessert reception from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26 in the Morgan University Center Iris Room starts the weekend with a Salsa Night from 8-11 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom.

Saturday, Oct. 27 offers a day of activities from which families may choose, including special presentations for students and parents, a talk by APSU President Timothy Hall and breakout sessions on such topics as the Student Code of Conduct and balancing life as a parent and a student.

Afternoon open houses include Archwood, the historic home of the University president, followed by a cookout. There will be a “social” from 4-6 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom for parents of Greeks and a children's movie from 6-8 p.m. in the University Center, Room 305.

Family Weekend concludes with a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, Oct. 28 as the APSU women's soccer team takes on Eastern Kentucky. Reservations deadline is Friday, Oct. 19. Tickets are $25/adult and $10/child. For more information, contact Melissa Davis by telephone at (931) 221-7838. -- Dennie B. Burke
