February 26, 2003

Two Austin Peay alumni won $52,900 on the Wheel of Fortune game show as it came through Nashville two weeks ago.

Mark and Kristin Cartwright, Woodlawn, were invited to audition on the special Sweethearts Week edition of the show being filmed at the Grand Ole Opry after signing up to play over the Web.

We always watched the show as children, and we were always good at it, so we figured 'Why not?' said Kristin Cartwright.

Mark and Kristin Cartwright, Woodlawn, were invited to audition on the special “Sweethearts Week” edition of the show being filmed at the Grand Ole Opry after signing up to play over the Web.

“We always watched the show as children, and we were always good at it, so we figured 'Why not?'” said Kristin Cartwright.

While the Cartwrights took turns, their biggest win came from Mark Cartwright's solution to the “Operators are standing by” puzzle.

The couple missed winning another $25,000 on the bonus round, but they say they're pleased with the amount they took home, as it was the most won on the Nashville show.

“It was neat to see all that went on behind the scenes,” said Cartwright, who witnessed the changing of the sets and had a makeup artist powdering her nose between takes. “It was really an amazing experience.”
