1st concert in series kicks off 2006-07 season

The Clarksville Community Concert Association, together with the Austin Peay State University Department of Music and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, are sponsoring the first in the Community Concert Artist Series.

The first concert of the 2006-07 season will start at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.
The Clarksville Community Concert Association, together with the Austin Peay State University Department of Music and the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, are sponsoring the first in the Community Concert Artist Series.

The first concert of the 2006-07 season will start at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 26 in the Music/Mass Communication Building Concert Hall.

It features Weston Hurt, baritone recitalist and concert singer, accompanied by pianist Miah Im. Hurt's artistry has been honored at many notable vocal competitions. He received first place and the People's Choice Award from the Dallas Opera Guild Vocal Competition and first prize from the George London Foundation, both during the 2004-05 season.

Im is the acting music director for the Maryland Opera Studio at the University of Maryland. She received her advanced degrees in piano performance, accompanying, chamber music and Italian from the University of Michigan. The concert also features songs written by composers Gustav Mahler, Maurice Ravel and Samuel Barber as well as selections from the musical theater.

Future series concerts are Jan. 18 with violinist Routa Kroumovitch; Feb. 14, featuring The Marian Anderson String Quartet; March 25 with the St. Louis Brass Quintet; and April 14 with the Sam Yahel Jazz Trio.

Subscriptions for five concerts purchased before Oct. 20 are $100 per seat or $300 for families with up to four children. A family payment plan ($50 per month) also is available.

Single tickets are $25 for adults, $12 for non-APSU students. APSU students are free with ID. Group rates are also available. Single tickets will be on sale in the MMC Box Office (MMC Lobby) from 3-6 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 24 and 25 and from 3-6 p.m. and 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26.
