General Public Announcements

This week long event, to be held Sept. 14 - 17, 5-7 pm daily,will showcase the variety of adaptive equipment,exercises,& classes University Recreation offers to those with disabilities. The Expo is open to all of the APSU Community & we encourage participants of all levels of ability to come support/experience UREC from a different point-of-view. The event is free,pre-registration is not required.

Starting September 13th the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center will be offering a new Aerial Fitness Class. This class is a 4-week program, meeting Sundays from 4-5pm and Fridays from 4:45-5:45pm. The class will be capped at 16 people. Dates are Sept.13-Oct.6 & Oct.25-Nov.17. Prices are Students: $15, Affiliates:$20, & Community:$25, for each 4-week program.

Clark Cemetery "Voices" come alive on stage in the Mabry Concert Hall (Music/Mass Communication Bldg.) at 7:30pm. This George Mabry musical drama premiere, based on poems by Stark Hunter, features APSU faculty singers, actors, and instrumentalists. Tickets-general $10; non-APSU students $5; APSU students free. The composer and poet will host a pre-performance discussion at 6:30 in MMC 147.

A dramatic reading, "Divided: Mary Lincoln & Emilie Todd Helm," featuring the author, Valerie Gugala as Mrs. Lincoln, will be performed at 7pm, Saturday, Sept. 12, in Trahern Theatre. The dialog is based on letters between Mary Lincoln and her half-sister, Emilie Todd Helm, who was married to a Confederate officer killed during the Civil War. The event is free and will be followed by a reception.

Woodward Library is hosting "Lincoln: the Constitution and the Civil War," an exhibition commemorating the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, Sept. 4–Oct. 15. You are invited to the grand opening at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8. Pres. Alisa White and Joe Weber, library director, will cut the ribbon. Weber will talk about the significance of the exhibition and programs, and refreshments will be served.

Dr. Jeffrey Wood, pianist and professor of music, and Dr. Jeffrey Williams, baritone and assistant professor of music, will perform a free concert of Civil War era music at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Mabry Concert Hall. The concert is part of the grand opening of the traveling exhibition, "Lincoln: the Constitution and the Civil War," hosted by the Woodward Library Sept. 4–Oct. 15.

Beginning August 22 the Foy Fitness and Recreation Center will have the following operating hours: Monday - Thursday, 6 a.m. - 10 p.m.; Friday, 6 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. ; Sunday, Noon - 10 p.m.
