Course description:

Math 4240 is mainly about probability and distribution theories. Topics will include probability, discrete and continuous random variables and their distributions, multivariate probability distributions, sampling distributions, expectation and conditional expectation, generating functions and transforms, law of large numbers, and the central limit theorem.

Topics: Materials to be covered are from chapters 2 through 7 of the text plus external notes from the instructor . 

Objectives:

  • To acquaint the student with the principles of probability and distribution      theories.
  • To enable the student to recognize statistical problems and the necessity of      professional consultation.
  • To interest students in studying further in the field of statistics.
  • To enable the student to read and understand published statistical research.
  • To enable the student to apply their knowledge outside classroom.
