The Ohio Valley Conference: Inspiring Excellence Since 1948

The roots of the Ohio Valley Conference date back over 60 years to 1948, making the OVC the eighth-oldest Division I conference. Over that time period the League has inspired excellence in its student-athletes as they compete on the playing fields, excel in the classroom and then transition into being leaders in their communities.

Over the upcoming months you will see more content on how the OVC has helped inspire leaders, dreamers, scholar and champions both on and off the court.

We invite you to follow the Ohio Valley Conference (@OVCSports) and share your OVC memories that inspire you by joining the conversation on Twitter and using the #OVCinspires.  You can also like the OVC on Facebook and share your stories there.

Book Signing by APSU Alumna Dr. Uffelman

Pace Alumni Center (751 N. Second St.)

Dr. Uffelman will be signing her new book The Diary of Nannie Haskins Williams: A Southern Woman’s Story of Rebellion and Reconstruction, 1863-1890.

Books will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be available.

For the last several years, Uffelman and three other women – APSU communication professor Ellen Kanervo, Montgomery County Historian Eleanor Williams and Phyllis Smith, former president of the Friends of Fort Defiance – have worked to transcribe Haskins’ journals. Their hard work was finally rewarded this July when the University of Tennessee Press published their book, “The Diary of Nannie Haskins Williams: A Southern Woman’s Story of Rebellion and Reconstruction, 1863-1890,” as part of its “Voices of the Civil War” series.

“What makes the diary unique is it takes us from her being a teenager during the crisis of the Civil War to her being married, raising children, living in a terrible economy in the post-war south,” Uffelman said. “She writes about mortgages and droughts and trying to educate her children.”
