What's next?

Admission Process

  1. You will receive an acknowledgment that we have received your application.

  2. You will then be notified of required documents needed to process your application.  Refer to the checklist on The Application Process (i.e., First-Time Freshman) to make sure you forwarded the necessary documents.

  3. After all documents are received and the application has been processed, you will be notified of the admission decision.

  4. Written formal appeals of the University’s admission decision may be filed with the Office of Admissions for consideration by the University Admission and Standards Committee.  The admission decision is based upon a student’s likelihood of success at Austin Peay.  All decisions of the committee are final.  Students who are denied are encouraged to attend a community college and re-apply for admission as a transfer student.

  5. All transfer and readmitted students who do not meet admission requirements may appeal to the Committee on Admission Standards by submitting a transfer appeal form.  All decisions of the committee are final.  Students who are denied are encouraged to return to their previous institution or attend a community college to improve their GPA and re-apply at another time.  It is suggested that students re-take courses in which they performed poorly the first time in order to improve their GPA.

Scholarships

  • APSU awards scholarships on the basis of academic achievement, talents and special skills.  Most are renewable, provided you maintain your academic standing.   A variety of scholarships are available, and most have a priority deadline ranging from Feb. 1 - April 1.  For specific information click here.

Financial Aid

  • Most federal and state financial aid is awarded on the basis of proven financial need.  Such aid may take the form of grants (funds that do not require repayment), loans (usually available at a low interest rates and repayment after the student leaves school) and part-time employment (either on campus or in the community).

It is each student's responsibility to secure financial aid packets from a high school counselor in ample time to complete the forms and ensure they are received in the Financial Aid Office.  The priority deadline is April 1.

  • For more information about available financial assistance, click here.

  • Filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application is a must for federal student grants, work-study money, and loans.  To be considered for non-federal aid from APSU, you may have to fill out additional forms.  Call our Student Financial Aid Office at 1-877-502-0057 or click here for more information.

Housing

  • Housing: Freshmen Residency Requirement - In an attempt to provide opportunities for growth and development outside the home, any full-time, single freshman student under 21 years of age, not residing with his/her parents or legal guardians, is required to live in University Housing for the first two academic semesters.

  • Living in University housing has intrinsic worth realized through involvement in educational and social programs, self governance, resident-staff collaboration, student employment, and personal responsibility. For more information regarding the housing application process, click here.

COMPASS Testing

  • All first-time freshmen applicants 21 years of age and older are required to take the COMPASS assessment prior to being admitted to the University.  In addition, all new transfer applicants with fewer than 60 college hours who have not successfully completed college-level English and math must assess in those areas prior to registration.  For more information contact the Counseling and Testing Center at (931) 221-6269.

Registration

  • All first-time freshmen and transfer students must attend a Summer or Winter Welcome registration program to register for classes.  Information regarding these programs will be mailed to all admitted students from the Office of New Student Programs.  Re-admitted students may contact a departmental advisor to obtain a RUN number to register using AP Web.
