These applications are free, open source alternatives for those who cannot afford commercial software, for those who support the freeware development community, or for those who simply like to experiment with alternative software. Most of the applications listed are under the GNU General Public License, or similar public licenses, and are available in versions for various platforms (Apple, Windows, Linux, etc.). Last but not least, these are not pirated programs.

GIMP
The GNU Image Manipulation Program can handle tasks such as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring with features comparable to Adobe Photoshop. The images on this site were created/edited with GIMP. -

Multi-platform office suite compatible with major office suites. Features components for word processing, spreadsheets, slide presentations, drawing, scientific formulas, and database management.
