Fee Adjustments - Notice to
All Students
Just this week, Austin Peay received information that the
Tennessee Board of Regents has revised, effective Fall 2007, how
refunds and fee adjustments are calculated. We want to inform
students as soon as possible about this change.
Only students taking more than fulltime hours who adjust their
schedules below fulltime hours during the fee adjustment
period(s) are affected by the new procedures. Undergraduate
students taking more than 12 hours benefit because Austin Peay’s
tuition and fee calculations are capped at 12 hours – meaning
that students who register for more than 12 hours are not
charged any additional tuition or fees.
Under the revised guidelines, undergraduate students who
register for more than 12 hours and subsequently drop to less
than 12 hours or withdraw from the University during a fee
adjustment period will be charged a prorated fee for the dropped
hours. For example, consider a student who registered for 15
hours and then dropped to nine hours during the 75 percent fee
adjustment period. The adjusted student fee will be nine hours
at the full rate per hour and 6 hours at 25 percent of the per
hour rate. The difference in this calculated tuition and fee
amount and the original amount of tuition and fees charged would
be the refund to the student. It is possible that certain
adjustments in hours will not result in a refund after the fee
adjustment calculation.
This revision results in a small fee for classroom spaces
committed to students who dropped the class, thus possibly
preventing another student from being able to register for that
class.
Graduate students taking more than 10 hours are not charged any
additional tuition or fees. They also benefit from the capping
of tuition and fees calculation. The same procedures outlined
above apply to graduate students who register for more than 10
hours and subsequently drop to less than 10 hours or withdraw
from the University during a fee adjustment period.
