Critical to your success at APSU is academic advising. Each semester, you will meet with your adviser to review your academic progress and to plan for your future progress while making informed decisions regarding coursework for an upcoming semester.
When you decide on an academic major, you will be assigned to a faculty member in the department of the major who will serve as your adviser for remaining semester. These assignments are made by department chairs; students are notified by the Registrar’s Office via AP Mail when the assignment has been made. This is the faculty member with whom you will meet on a formal basis before each registration period and the faculty member from whom you must secure your RUN which enables you to enter your schedule using AP Web for students.
Students who are still deciding on their majors (UNDECLARED) meet with one of the professional advisers in the Career and Advisement Center. Not only do these advisers assist you in preparing schedules for the upcoming semester, they work with you to assist you as you make a choice of a major. They also assist students who may be questioning the choice of a major. They are able to connect you with many resources on campus.
Appointments made with advisers establish a time for which both the adviser and advisee can be prepared. Always set up an appointment well in advance of the time you wish to meet with your adviser. During the APSU 1000 course, freshmen learn about the advising process and, if they have declared a major, engage in the first advising session with their permanently assigned adviser. Undeclared students will be advised by the Career and Advisement Center.
