In honor of all students as APSU, we had a Student Appreciation event in the Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center with ice cream catered by The Pied Piper Creamery.
This was a Spoken-word competition for APSU students to have the opportunity to express themselves.

In preparation for the 3rd Annual Peay Soup Spoken Word Competition, Southern Word partnered with Professor Johnny Jones and his Contemporary African American Life class to provide a workshop to produce and revise pieces.

This lecture about the history of the "N" Word, servedas part of the Hot Topic Series, discussing its usage in history, entertainment, politics, war, hip hop, and how it is embedded in the fabric of our society. A discussion with the audience facilitated their thoughts and why they use/do not use the word.
This was a program to recognize the African American female faculty/staff for their years of service at Austin Peay State University, and the exceptional work of African American female student leaders. This program was also in celebration of Women's History Month.
An event where APSU Students and Alumni came and networked with employers across the state of Tennessee that are looking for qualified employees. The Career Coach Bus was also on campus, offering students workshops on resume building, interviewing skills, and much more.
Peay Soup gives students the opportunity to express themselves through words, sounds, and rhythm.

Dr. Hill spoke about how this election year impacts:
The state of the Hip-Hop Nation, the New Black Church, Education and more specifically Black Youth, Black sexuality, and race and racism.
An event where students discussed issues that affect his or her life.

A documentary screening dealing with sex, sexuality, and HIV/AIDS. There is also a Q & A Session afterwards with Producer/Director Tim Daniels.
Students came over to the Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center to receive sex education and get a free HIV/AIDS test.

Jerry L. Maynard gave a book reading and signing at the Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center. Student Life and Engagement was a co-sponsor for this event.
This is a relaxed, and informal “safe space” (town hall discussion) for students to talk freely with executive leadership, and an opportunity for them to hold conversations about topics that may affect them as college students.
This is an opportunity for students to watch live footage of the 2012 Presidential Election. The Student Government Association and Student Life and Engagement are co-sponsors for the event with Dr. Marc Lamont Hill.
Trick or Treat, Smell our feet, the “lil Govs" will not miss a beat. The Child Learning Center stopped for their annual Trick-or-Treating event around APSU. Our little guests and their parents had a wonderful time at the WNDAACC in their annual spooky day.
It is an opportunity to reconnect alumni with each other, and an opportunity for current students to network with alumni while enjoying music and FREE food.
Dr. Susan Curtis is a professor of American Studies at Purdue University. The Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center, in collaboration with the Woodward Library Society and Honors Programs, brought her to Austin Peay State University to discuss her research with APSU students, faculty, and staff.
APSU students had a good time with Columbian music quartet, Explosion Negra perform.

The program was facilitated by Assistant Professor Johnny Jones from African American Studies.

This is a FREE breakfast provided for APSU parents and family to kickoff the weekend of events.
This was an opportunity for APSU students to register to vote.
Annual event open to all APSU students in celebration of our common heritage and common purposes in the overall success of APSU. FREE food, provided by APSU faculty and staff, and LIVE music.
The purpose of the event is to educate the APSU campus community about HIV/AIDS, ways to practice safer sex, the promotion of abstinence and to provide FREE HIV/AIDS testing. The program is facilitated by guest speaker, Dwayne Jenkins, a Nashville CARES Education Coordinator.
