Dance Marathon
Frequently
Asked Questions
1) What is Dance Marathon (DM)?
Dance Marathon is an annual event that raises awareness
and funds for the Monroe Carroll Jr. Children’s Hospital
at Vanderbilt, so that they can have open doors for
continual care.
It is a 24-hour celebration of life, which
culminates with a 7 hour event.
First of all, it is not a dance-a-thon.
You don’t dance for 7 hours straight, although it
is a party, so there will be some dancing.
Throughout the year, the executive committee of
students works hard to plan this huge event, as well as
recruit dancers to raise money through various
fundraisers for the cause.
2) When is DM 2009?
Friday, February 27, 2009
3)
How can I participate in DM?
Simply go to
www.apsu.edu/sll and fill out the registration form.
Paper forms are also available in the office of
Student Life and Leadership, MUC 211, or at information
tables during the fall and spring semesters.
You can participate as an individual or with a
team, such as your student organization.
4)
Am I expected to raise the required fee to be a dancer
by myself?
No!!
Dance Marathon’s
executive committee is here to help you every step of
the way.
Our fundraising chair will also work with your team to
plan fun and simple fundraising events.
5)
What is a team?
A team is made up of 5-10 people who
will raise money together towards their team goal. Each
team must reach the target goal of $500 to participate
in the Dance Marathon event. This is so easy to
accomplish! Teams will have the opportunity to
participate in fundraising opportunities coordinated by
the Fundraising chair to raise money for their team
goal. Along with letter writing and individual
fundraising, your team will meet this goal in no time!
6)
What is a team leader?
Each team must have a team leader who
is responsible for relaying information to the rest of
his or her team throughout the year. There will be
periodic team leader meetings that will keep these
leaders abreast of this important information.
7) How can I participate
in the leadership of DM?
The executive committee is chosen in
the spring semester, following the event.
Candidates go through an application and
interview process.
Applications will be available online at
www.apsu.edu/sll or you can
pick one up in the Student Life and Leadership office in
the Morgan University
Center, 211.
Contact the SLL office at 221-7431 for more
information on how you can help.
